"Authorize a new connection" Keeps Popping Up (Firefox/Chrome/KeePass)

I see this has been asked before in the distant past with no real resolution. I’m using the latest version of Kee, KeePassRPC, KeePass, Firefox & Chrome. This has been working with no issues for years. About a week ago I received the “Authorize a new connection” popup with no corresponding window from Firefox or Chrome. Denying the request only re-spawns the window. Closing all browsers doesn’t kill it. Reboot, no change. I’m the only user, browsers only have one profile. I deleted ALL the authorized connections in the KeePassRPC options section of KeePass. Opening Firefox & Chrome again worked as expected. I authorized the new connection & all is well. EXCEPT, it’s still throwing up the authorization box. I have a second computer with the same exact setup, no issues. Something else must be triggering the “Authorize a new connection” box.

Might not be able to store the encryption keys for the connection, for some reason.

Maybe KeePass file system permissions or KeePassRPC/Kee configuration settings (for a start make sure you haven’t enabled the high security mode for the connection and try medium security mode if so).

I’m sure these possibilities have been discussed in more detail previously so hopefully they might be some useful breadcrumbs for you to follow.

Keys store properly & Kee operates just as it should on both Firefox & Chrome. Security level is on the default “Medium” setting. Only glitch is the pop up authorization box which will not go away. Any clue in that I get the box even if all browsers are closed? I should add this is a W10 machine.

Maybe you have it installed in Thunderbird too?

Make sure that all the browsers are really closed (use task manager or similar to search for any processes that might be left over running in the background).

See if it still happens when disconnected from the network, in case another machine is configured to connect to this one.

OK, I’ve done some experimenting… Disconnect network, no change. I do have Thunderbird but Kee is not installed.
However, It appears that opening KeePass is the trigger. From a fresh reboot, as soon as I open Keepass (even before I enter my password for a database) the Authorize box pops up. Denying the request just re-spawns the box. If I kill the box using task manager (Keepass itself remains running) all is well. Opening Chrome, Firefox, Thunderbird or anything else will not cause the box to reappear. If I shutdown KeePass & restart it the box will appear. Bringing the machine back from “sleep” or “hibernate” will also cause the box to reappear.

Any updates on this? It is really, really annoying… It started some weeks ago and drives me crazy. I almost feel like uninstalling the extension…

Funny you should ask… I just noticed the behavior is gone. No updates to Keepass. Kee, or RPC. It must be something OS related. I see Windows 10 received an update KB5001716 on July 2. It’s the only OS update that’s happened since the start of the issue. Have you received that one yet? The quickest work around I found was to right click the box in the taskbar & “X Close Window”.

If you happen to have “Team Viewer” software installed it also updated during this time period. I really wish I could pinpoint things for you but I didn’t notice the exact moment the problem resolved itself. I updated KeePass to 2.59 this morning. No issues with this update, problem has not resurfaced.
